Amid a group of generally excellent suggestions for the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) from Andrew Weil, M.D., there comes the following classic description of how the “Food Diary” suggestion from your doctor is supposed to work.
How a Food Journal Works
A food journal: Most people with IBS say their symptoms worsen after […]
Irritable Bowel Syndrome - The Three Rules
0 Comments Published by tummyblogger September 12th, 2007 in Gastrocolic Reflex, IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, IBS Triggers, IBS-C, IBS-D, IBS Diet, IBS SymptomsI have been fixing up the inner workings of For My Tummy. This involved going back over two months of posts, and that gave me the chance to notice that I had posted once on two rules for IBS, here. And then, ten days or so before that, I had posted on the one rule […]

0 Comments Published by tummyblogger September 11th, 2007 in Probiotics, Amazon, general, IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Online sourcesAmazon is, or customers are, tagging some of its products with “IBS,” and hoping to generate some sales. As one of their “other” ads, they have a one-line ad for Digestrin which runs as follows:

I finished the month of August without my annual bout of extreme IBS, either D or C, and credit the combination of IBS diet and the fact that I was taking the probiotic Align ™ for this amazing difference from the past “agony of August.”
Then, in the beginning of September, I had […]
Important Reminder for IBS-D
0 Comments Published by tummyblogger September 5th, 2007 in IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, IBS-DPlease Note
The following point has been at the top of my list for posts for a week or so. I want to emphasize that this reminder from the NDDIC is important for people with IBS-D. If you have bouts of diarrhea, or even constant diarrhea, please heed this:
Replacing Electrolytes
Electrolytes, in addition to fluid, must be […]
The Hard Work of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
0 Comments Published by tummyblogger September 4th, 2007 in Blog, IBS, Irritable Bowel SyndromeI stumbled upon the blog site of someone named Seth Godin; he is a marketing guru, hardly an expert on IBS. He is also a very good and readable writer. His topic for today, Labor Day, was “work,” both the old-fashioned kind measured in productivity–chickens fed, hay baled, steel poured—and the kind of work measured […]
̈ ܹNo matter how many times I see this very short paragraph by Sophie at ibstales.com, I chuckle. I tried writing “giggle,” but that sounds too undignified. She’s had a calm period, and writes:
No sooner had I written an entry saying I was so well I didn’t have anything to write about, my intestines gave me something to write about. They’ve very helpful like that. Sometimes they even make the bed.1

I am going to respond and thank them. I will have to suggest that
IBS and the Three Nervous Systems
0 Comments Published by tummyblogger August 27th, 2007 in Medical, IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, IBS-C, IBS-D, Digesting Information, IBS SymptomsThe Second Brain
There is an actual physical finding in Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), that indicates that IBS is not “all in the head.” All in the nerves, maybe, but not all in the head.
The Three Nervous Systembs
To begin with, we need to understand that our bodies have three nervous systems:
CNS - The Central Nervous […]
Represser-Sensitizers with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
1 Comment Published by tummyblogger August 25th, 2007 in Medical, IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Digesting Information, IBS SymptomsThe term Repressor-Sensitizer is a psychological term used to describe a certain kind of reaction to the discovery of symptoms or of illness. This kind of person, and I’m one, is accustomed to just keeping on keeping on, just hanging in there and getting it done. Until, that is, she or he notices signs of […]
Sixth Week of Taking Align ™ for IBS
0 Comments Published by tummyblogger August 23rd, 2007 in Probiotics, IBS, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, IBS therapy, AlignMissing the Pill
This week would have been a very boring, more-of-the-same, post about Align. ™ It would have been, except that on Friday I forgot to take the day’s tablet of Align. It was my second week of taking Align using the 7-day blister packs that come in the new packaging.
Because I had, during this second week, gotten the days on the blister pack properly aligned (I couldn’t resist)

As their URI indicates, the IFFGD is aboutibs.org, an organization and web site devoted to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (and, perhaps, other functional GI disorders). I’ve just added a link to their web site in the sidebar.
Patient Advocates for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
The IFFGD organization is, I think, the closest to a “patient-advocacy” […]
