Changes in Protein Intake
Adopting a dietary approach to managing Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) means radically changing your sources of protein. No more red meat or scrambled eggs, for example. No more chicken or turkey dark meat, and no more four glasses of milk.
Examples of Alternative Protein
Soymilk can vary in protein content from a low of […]

For My Tummy’s IBS-News
If you have been checking the IBS news, on this blog you will see that the top items (in today’s news, July 31, 2007) are about Zelnorm.
FDA Approves Investigational New Drug Status for Zelnorm
The FDA has approved the very strictly controlled and limited use of Zelnorm for women (not men) under […]

Into the third week with Align
The state of my tummy is degrading a bit. I am thinking that Align offers less probiotic than the NSI 15-35 formula I had been taking.

What do I mean by “degrading?”
I am more sluggish–that is, constipated. Also, I have had something like four episodes of reflux in five days. I’ve “medicated up” with both Ranitidine 150 (Zantac ™ 150)) and Prilosec ™. That means that

I came across some research from 2003, today, that demonstrated that fructose can be a trigger for IBS. It wasn’t on the list at the IBS Triggers Page, indexed in the Header. Now I’ve added it to the list.
What are Triggers?
For Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) triggers are foods and drinks that set off […]

The last two lines of a dense article on the effects of music on gastric motility (motion) are intriguing, yet raise many questions.
Listening to enjoyable music increases the amplitude of gastric myoelectrical activity in healthy humans.
Music therapy may improve gastric motility and may be used to stimulate gastric emptying.

This is the source […]

Sometimes it seems so simple I take it for granted. There are two kinds of fiber for IBS. One is FiberSure ™, which is 100% inulin and is made from chicory. The other is Heather’s Organic Acacia Tummy Fiber ™, which is 100% acacia fiber, from the acacia gum tree.
These are the fibers that […]

“The doctors don’t know what’s wrong with me, so they say it’s IBS.”
“I’m fed up with the doctors who keep sending me for tests and don’t seem to find out what’s wrong. They don’t know anything more than when they started and they don’t understand that I’m in pain.”
And I read many more similar complaints […]

There are two important rules to remember in the self-help approach to IBS. You have made the important decision to take charge of what’s going on with your body, now that, hooray! the doctors and technicians have found none of the majors. You don’t have cancer. You don’t have Crohn’s Disease. You don’t have gall […]

In this post I will try to outline the basics of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) therapy. The harsh truth is that there is no magic pill or potion. IBS is a condition rather than an illness. I know, when you are in the middle of the current round of bodily “wrongness” that is IBS, you […]

The following is a press release announcing that Konsyl has launched a combination of PRObiotics and PREbiotics especially for people with IBS. As regular readers know, I recently stressed that Align (for example) or NSI probiotics needed to be taken along with a PREbiotic such as Acacia fiber when managing your IBS.

I am not too thrilled with Konsyl’s choice of fibers. The combination approach–of inulin and psyllium fibers–does seem

The following review of Align begins by examining the packaging, goes on to talk about starting to take Align, and concludes with an offer for a $5 discount Code for ordering Align on the web, plus a call for best suggestions for naming the 1 to 4 scale of reactions to Align.

Examining the Package

OK. We know that Align ™ shipped this reviewer’s first month’s supply in good time. It reached

It’s getting sexier by the minute!

The reason I have produced all the material below, about the role of PRObiotics and PREbiotics in IBS management, is to lay a foundation for discussion of Align ™, the new PRObiotic for IBS that has FDA approval and is supported by clinical trials. There is a lot of hype about Align ™ in the online community of people with IBS, and I want users
