dssfaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa 2007 August | For My Tummy

Archive for August, 2007

In addition to the sporadic items in the category I have called “IBS Food” on For My Tummy, there are some other sources for food recipes. Heather’s Newsletters at HelpforIBS.com offer a large selection, as does her book Eating for IBS. I have just added an appetizing website with recipes for people with food intolerances–gluten […]

Last week, on Wednesday August 22, 2007, I opened the 7-day pack of Align ™ for my last two weeks of reviewing the patented probiotic product. On that day I also ordered the next month of Align ™ from their web site. The day of the week was Wednesday. While I have a note of the order and the date and the confirmation code, I do not remember what

The Second Brain
There is an actual physical finding in Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), that indicates that IBS is not “all in the head.” All in the nerves, maybe, but not all in the head.
The Three Nervous Systembs
To begin with, we need to understand that our bodies have three nervous systems:

CNS - The Central Nervous […]

Humor about Align ™ for IBS

Funny [or not so much]
I was using a feed validator to check on the feed for another blog, when I thought to myself: “Why not check ForMyTummy.com?” I entered the name of this blog into the RSS validator, and one of the problems it highlighted was as follows

“line 342, column 0: style attribute contains potentially dangerous content: align (2 occurrences) [help]”

followed by this code:

ul style=align: center;

I suppose that if I were to take a message from this about the ForMyTummy blog, it would be that it’s dangerous for the blog to have so much content about Align. There should be more coverage about other aspects of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Align is Safe
Align, more than any other dietary supplement or probiotic for IBS has been tested for safety, as well as efficacy. That is, it is safe and effective specifically for IBS.

Align Promotional Discount Code
Moving away from the lighthearted, I want to mention again that I have a promotional code you can use to buy Align. Write a serious comment to any post on this blog, send me a message at tummyblogger [at] gmail.com that you have written a comment, and I’ll send you the promotional code for the $5 discount. We don’t know yet whether it is reusable; I certainly hope so.

How to Comment
Commenting is easy. Just click on the “no comments” or “comments (2)” or whatever the number that always appears at the end of a post on the lower right hand side.

The term Repressor-Sensitizer is a psychological term used to describe a certain kind of reaction to the discovery of symptoms or of illness. This kind of person, and I’m one, is accustomed to just keeping on keeping on, just hanging in there and getting it done. Until, that is, she or he notices signs of […]

The following material is designed specifically for people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). It may be useful to people who have occasional constipation or diarrhea or non-specific tummy pain. As usual, this is not medical advice. It will be helpful to read the Fiber in IBS Glossary, posted two days ago, and you might […]

Missing the Pill
This week would have been a very boring, more-of-the-same, post about Align. ™ It would have been, except that on Friday I forgot to take the day’s tablet of Align. It was my second week of taking Align using the 7-day blister packs that come in the new packaging.

Because I had, during this second week, gotten the days on the blister pack properly aligned (I couldn’t resist)

Terminology Problems
The discussion about appropriate types of fiber in the therapy of Irritable Bowel Syndrome is hampered by a number of misconceptions about fiber. What has been holding me up in writing a simple Fiber 101b post, the second part of the primer on fiber, has been the need to explain several distinctions among types […]

The AboutIBS Organization
As their URI indicates, the IFFGD is aboutibs.org, an organization and web site devoted to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (and, perhaps, other functional GI disorders). I’ve just added a link to their web site in the sidebar.
Patient Advocates for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
The IFFGD organization is, I think, the closest to a “patient-advocacy” […]

The following paragraph on Heather’s web site caught my eye:
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Supplements
Supplements for the dietary management of IBS can be unbelievably helpful for stabilizing digestion. This is particularly true when they’re used as one of the five key strategies for controlling Irritable Bowel Syndrome (proper diet, stress management, alternative therapies, and prescription medications […]

Introduction
I had a friend who helped me startup a counseling center.
He was a neurologist, who said something that really stayed with me. He said “When I see a patient for the first time, I know within five minutes what I’ll find on examination, and how I’ll treat the person. The rest is interaction–teaching and […]

An organization called NICE (National Institute for Health Information Clearance Exchange) is calling for comments on Standards of Practice in Medicine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome that are in development by the National Health Service. The comment period has started, and will end on October 11, 2007.
Mostly they want comments from so-called “Stakeholder” Organizations. This would […]
